New semester, new experiment!

Please visit the blogs of the U Chile geography students you have been assigned to supervise. Read their posts and take note of frequent errors. Post a quick comment (to say hello and establish contact). Finally, post a short reflection post (50-60 words) on your blog giving your first impressions on this task.

The Biggie!!

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using blogs in the classroom? Write from your own experience this semester. Support your views with specific examples. These could include tasks you have done, reflections you have made or things you have commented upon with your classmates. Write between 300 and 350 words.

The main text of the essay has three main parts:
An introduction
A main body
A conclusion
I. The introduction.
The introduction consists of two parts:
It should include a few general statements about the subject to provide a background to your essay and to attract the reader’s attention. It should try to explain why you are writing the essay. It may include a definition of terms in the context of the essay, etc.
It should also include a statement of the specific subdivisions of the topic and/or indication of how the topic is going to be tackled in order to specifically address the question.
It should introduce the central idea or the main purpose of the writing.
II. The main body.
The main body consists of one or more paragraphs of ideas and arguments. Each paragraph develops a subdivision of the topic. The paragraphs of the essay contain the main ideas and arguments of the essay together with illustrations or examples. The paragraphs are linked in order to connect the ideas. The purpose of the essay must be made clear and the reader must be able to follow its development.
III. The conclusion.
The conclusion includes the writer’s final points.
It should recall the issues raised in the introduction and draw together the points made in the main body
and explain the overall significance of the conclusions. What general points can be drawn from the essay as a whole?
It should clearly signal to the reader that the essay is finished and leave a clear impression that the purpose of the essay has been achieved.

Dear Students,

Today you have two topics to carry out.

1. Look at the link list and write a review of the blog belonging to the classmate who features after you on the list (the person who is at the bottom of the list has to review the blog of the person at the top of the list). Write at least 150 words.

2. Choose one post from your classmates' blog and correct their English. Post the original and the correction on your blog.

One to One

There are lots of people I would like to have a one to one with. Nevertheless, I think I would be disappointed if I met many of my heroes. Either I wouldn’t like them or they wouldn’t live up to my expectations. The first people that spring to mind are authors or musicians or actors, creative people who may turn out to be moody or egocentric.
I’ve never been a great history buff so, although there are lots of interesting historical figures, I’m not sure I want to meet any of them. Maybe I could have a one to one with Hitler and ask him why he oversaw the killing of 6 million Jews. Maybe a quick chat with Leonardo Da Vinci to find out where he got his inspiration would be enlightening.
Or there are always modern day saints like Gandhi or Martin Luther King who it would be good to meet.
